traditions

like most families.. i like to bake. and the holiday's are when i go a little bat shit bake crazy. weekend i baked snickerdoodles, and peanut butter balls and i made the sugar cookie dough so that blake and i could make them when he came home. i figured i'd make whatever else later.

i remember growing up with my mom and baking all day long. my job was to roll the snickerdoodles in the cinnamon and sugar.. and not eat them *ahem.* i got to roll and cut out the sugar cookies. eating half the frosting and frosting the cookies with the rest. eating chocolate chip cookie dough. it was a mess, but it was fun. and it completely makes me think of christmas. so now that's what i try to do in my house. cookies with mom. cookies with blake. it's what we do.

but this weekend... the boys came home from camping and promptly started to feed themselves. they got out the leftover turkey.. and the popped what they thought was mashed taters into the microwave. about this time, i opened the refrigerator door and searched high and low for the sugar cookie dough. then i looked in the microwave. and in a huge blob of warm mess, sat the cookie dough....

i stopped the microwave and then started cracking up. and then laughed harder at the thought of blake scooping the dough out on his plate.. loading it up with butter.. and then wondering why it tasted so sweet?!?!

the mashed taters were still in the fridge. you know, cold.

the dough was/is ruined.

but that's okay. i'll just make more.

what are your holiday traditions?

Remember the blog about men not paying attention? He learns well grasshopper......lol!

They all want me to bake even now. They just want to eat. Its OK though on Christmas I enjoy spoiling them. They rest of the time my 'mother of the year" award is in trash compactor.(grin)

I think I would have been in tears if this had happened to MY cookie dough. Your reaction is much better though. I'll try to remember this if anything similar ever happens to me and my cookies!

P.S. I like the new Christmas theme and the sitting-on-laps remark! :)

Jason, as himself said...

You should have just tried scooping the potatoes into little balls and baking them, and seeing if anyone noticed.

Great story!

I love your story...

Our tradition is not too exciting, but every year we go into the Santa Cruz mountains and chop down our tree. Every year.

I love Christmas. It's my favorite time of the year. Even when I was single I would deck out my whole house.

My favorite Christmas tradition is one my mom started with me and my siblings. Every year the whole family gets Christmas PJ's. We open them up on Christmas Eve and of course we all pretend we are so surprised they are PJ's and we had no idea we are getting them. They make for really funny pictures because all the girls match and all the guys match.

Too funny!

If it were me, I *might* have had a hard time stopping myself from watching them try to eat the "potatoes" :P

HA! I think you should have let them taste the *mashers.*

Traditions (or, not-so-traditional traditions...LOL!) are to go shopping at the last minute (despite plans to shop early and be done to relax most of December)
and wrap gifts all Christmas eve until the wee hours of the morning.
Also, to buy the tree two to five days before Christmas (because either a. put it off too late and thought had more time, or b. no way to transport the tree) and decorate it Christmas eve. I always plan to be more prepared. It never works though. Sigh.

Luv your Christmas tradition with the cookie baking! Wish I weren't so lazy, or I'd bake some, too.

BTW, Bree's pajama tradition sounds sooo cool! My dad's family did the matching p.j. photo thing, too. :)

P.S. Luv your new Christmasy page! :)
