hi, i'm jennster- and i don't own a laptop

there. i've said it. i am a blogger who does not own a laptop....

yet.

*cue scary music cause i'm sure somewhere this is some travesty to all mankind (or twatter) or something*

anyway.. i don't own one. yet... maybe.. we'll see.

i mean i'm kind of torn between wanting a laptop, or a beach cruiser. shut up. i'm not kidding. i totally want a bike. my niece has this kick ass 7 speed beach cruiser. i want one too. i don't know where or when i'll have the time to ride it, but that is totally not the point! i think my fat ass would get better results on a bike rather then under a laptop. and i totally want to ride around- especially now since i found this path that starts close to our house and goes about 2.5 whole miles to a park. ooh, 2.5 miles mommy. puss. but see, i'm straying. i blame you. don't get all logical with me and tell me you have nothing to do with this when you know damn well it's all your fault.

*ahem*

so, i need your help. i know nothing (literally) about tops of laps. and i know for a fact that all you bitches do. i saw you guys at blogher. aka as lap-top-her (that sounds dirty. let's have one of those next year). straying again. what is with you people?

so talk to me here folks. IF i do get one, it will be my only computer. i will store brazillions and brazillions of pictures on it. lots of picture editing. lots of crap. tell me what i need. what is best. what laptop do you have? would you buy it again? what do you love about it? what would you change?

fuck- just tell me what to buy. k? that'll just probably work best. thanks. the end.

I have an HP that I love. I'd like a MacBook, but I couldn't afford one. I suggest you buy an external hard drive for your photos so that it doesn't slow down the laptop, since they don't tend to have as much memory as a desktop.

It certainly sounds like I know what I'm talking about, doesn't it?

I hate desktops now that I've had laptops. I've had an HP that I loved and am currently using a Dell which really is hell. The Dell quickly began overheating, which I've heard is pretty typical. But I needed one quick at the time, and what can you do? Oh well.

Like I said loved the HP. But if and when I buy another laptop it will be a Macbook. I regret not shelling out the $$ for one to begin with, and having used Vista for 2 years now I regret being nervous about learning the Mac system. I've never met anyone who says 'omg, I hate my Macbook', which is a huge selling point for me.

Get a Macbook. My husband swears by them. Plus, they're easier (more logical!) to use than PCs. We just trashed our Dell and bought an iMac. :) I mean, it was the grand opening of the Apple store by us, so how could we not, right? As for why we didn't get a Macbook....my husband has one from his school district and it's pretty much "ours" if you know what I mean. :) We wanted a desktop computer for home.

P.S. Remember we used to do our NKOTB newsletter on your Mac? Yeah, they ROCK.

Boo bought me a MacbookPro for Christmas. I love it. Have thousands of pics on it and it still runs faster than our desk top.

Boo has a Dell...similar features. Keeps crashing on him. He hates it. He's buying a Macbook next time.

Well I'll be the lone voice of PC.

I've been using laptops for years. I've had Toshibas, HPs, and Dells. Right now I'm typing on a Toshiba. Upstairs I have 3 Dells.

Dells support is stellar. Top notch but I'm still a big proponent of the extended warranty. Cause you just never know.

I do like this Toshiba in the kitchen. I bought it on a whim last Christmas because it was cheap. It's basically just used for internet and pictures.

You're going to want to get a USB drive for your long term picture storage because it's just the safe thing to do.

With laptops it's all about screen size for me. Depending on what I want to use it for. And like a camera you'll need to hold it and feel it. Get a weight you can handle. My dad bought my mom a big screen one so she could stream TV and see it but the weight was more than she wanted on her lap.

i don't have a laptop either ... and unless we win one or are given one, probably won't in a very long time.

I have a PC for home and a Macbook for work, they're both cool for their own reasons. Jim swears by Toshiba, but Macs are known for being good for multimedia (ie photos). Go the Best Buy and play with a PC, then go to Apple and play with a MacBook - it's really what you're more comfortable with.

A big gulp met my HP laptop, which I loved.

I got a Macbook as a replacement....I fell in love and will never go back. FOR REALZ!!

Once you go mac, you'll never go back.
That's their new slogan, watch for it.

MacBook with an external drive (if computer crashes your pics are safe, over there, in that drive)

Or

MacBook Pro

I love my little MacBook more than is probably healthy.

I'm blogging now in the company of the family, as opposed to when I was only on a desktop, holed away in the office.

Bike? Naaaaaah....

I have a really pretty laptop. She's red. Whore-lipstick red. And I've named her Lola.

:)

She loves me just as much as I love her. She lets me fondle her keys every single day.

Hahahaha

Still laughing at lap-top-her.

Definitely get a Mac. You'll love it, but it's a little more expensive than a beach cruiser...I think.

By the way, I just posted your interview. (There, now I've notified you by e-mail, Twitter, and now your blog!) Thanks, Jennster!

I got an HP Pavilion 2 years ago, and I hate to be a dissenter but it sucks. I loved it for the first year, but don't anymore. I asked a friend who works a ton w/laptops and if you don't go mac he says the 2 best right now are the Sony Vaio and the Lenovo. I'm hoping to take a look at them along w/the Mac. May not be able to get one for awhile longer, but no harm in making a wish list!!

i love all you fuckers. thank you so much. keep it coming. and i LOVE LOVE LOVE the "once you go mac you never go back".. HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA

If you get the Lenovo you won't get the annoying little leprechaun with the fruit basket when your laptop crashes.

Dude, can't take you anywhere.
MacBook is the way to go, trust me.

I will only say one thing (because I acutally know less than nothing about the meat of a laptop) if you are going to be taking it around with you places, make sure that it is really light!! I lug mine to school every week and have given myself a huge painful knot in my shoulder because the damn thing is so freaking heavy - it's like 7 pounds, you would not think this is heavy, but try carrying it in a bag, weighing down on your shoulder from the car across the parking garage, down 3 flights of steps, over 3 more parking lots, into the building, thorugh the building to the back where the elevators are, up the elevators, across the building again to the classroom - can you say HEAVY??

I think that my next laptop is going to be that one that will fit into an inner-office envelope!!

Get one with the OS you are used to. Don't buy a mac because it's all pretty and trendy. Windows and Macs are both stable and similar. PC's tend to be a less expensive though -- quite possibly a laptop AND a beach cruiser's worth. Do a check at dealcatcher or one of those sites since it's back-to-school pricing right now.

I work with both at the university I work at and people have the same types of problems with both of them but for the most part either is trouble free.

Feel free to mail me if you want specs for either side.

I love my apple macbook (in black). I work on a windows at work, and I LOVE to come home to my apple machine. Doing all my blog work and editing pictures and music is just easier on my apple. However, I do house all my photos and music on an external harddrive. So I would get a MacBook and an external (they are not that expensive). Because then your photos are a bit more protected than being on a laptop.

I'm one of those who wants a MacBookPro but can't really come up off of $4000 for it right now. I mean I would, but the IRS is currently investigating my revenue stream and since I'm the next Nancy Botwin I need to keep a low profile. Yeaah....

I have a Dell Inspiron 1525. No problems. Very cute. I recommend 4GB memory & 250 GB hard drive. 5400rpms and Vista Ultimate. Make sure you get a good external hard drive as well, maybe a TB or so if you're big on downloading or pirating shit.

OH! And if you get a Dell, get the complete care/accidental damage warranty. It covers EVERYTHING. It's expensive as all shit, but don't forgo it.

And whatever you get - if you're environmentally conscious at all - get refurbished. Not bad on the environment and it's still covered under the same warranties and just as good as a brand new one.

Wait - CON for my computer - shitty speakers. Some things play way too low. Headphones eliminate that problem but bleah.

I wish I could advise on that. I blog on my hubby's old laptop that is SO old the gusy doing the tune-ups at BlogHer were laughing and taking pictures and joking about having to clear out the brontosauras before they could work on it...

sigh

It's only been in the last month that I got a laptop. I thought I was the only desktop blogger left on the planet!

Anyway, don't listen to any of those people talking of HP laptops, Dells, or Toshibas. They are crazy.

A MacBook is the only way to go and look super fucking cool. Fur realz. Look at me. I'm super fucking cool because of my MacBook.

My first laptop was a Dell. I'm here to tell you: do NOT buy a Dell. They are more expensive than some better laptops and they are shit. The motherboard burnt up in mine and the repair guy told me that almost all Dells have the same issue within the first year.

Right now I'm using a Gateway and it's been pretty awesome. I use an external hard drive to store all of my pics on so I can keep my laptop running quickly.

But, I'm with everyone else who is plugging the macbook. Yes, it's expensive, but it's so worth it. I've been begging for one and I think I will get one when I finally graduate from college! I would seriously consider paying extra for one -- it will pay for itself in the long run when you don't have viruses and other repairs to do.

Once you get a laptop you'll never understand how you lived without it. It's the same phenomenon as DVR.

Apparantly my last comment wouldn't link to me. Not a big deal, but I wanted you to know it was me!
