people pay kids to do this?

did you know that some baseball teams will literally pay for an entire kids family to fly places so the kid can play in a tournament for the team?

we're talking like a 9 or 10 year old kid here. they will pay for him and his entire family to fly from say california to florida, pay for their hotel, the tournament fees, etc... just so this kid can play baseball with them.

so naturally i sit here and think A- is the kid REALLY that good?? and then B- is their baseball tournament REALLY that fucking serious (cause i'm thinking, get the fuck over yourselves)?? and then C- is that really even fair??

i mean, the kid isn't even from their town- let alone their state... why should he be allowed to play on the team? seriously? omg, it's like the yankees of youth baseball. have you ever heard of this before? does it surprise you? should it not surprise me?

Okay, I get that kids can be super talented at any one thing - whatever it is, gymnastics to baseball.

But will they ever look back and say, "What the hell happened to my childhood and why didn't my parents let me have one?"

You have to find a happy medium, I think . . .

I thought that was only for televised games. Did the up it to all tournament games?

Huh? Where did you read about this? I think it's a big waste of money and that money could be going to hundreds of more important things. How about the kids from that team play and with all that money they seem to have to throw around, they donate it to a children's hospital where the kids can't even play in a neighborhood baseball game. Sheesh. I tell ya.

It is guys and its corporate sponsorship money and the concept is growing yearly. It used to be just televised games but must have spred. Hell, they are signing teen's to play in the minors now right out of high school. You get corporate greed involved and its one tries to out do the other.

This is the first I have heard of this, but seriously, nothing surprises me anymore when it comes to kids and sports. You think you've seen/heard it all, and then this...what a waste of money!

Simply madness. You have reminded me why I'm glad Super Girl opted away from "Select" soccer.

I think it's a total waste of money, and probably puts way too much pressure on the child, but if it were my kid I think I might go for it. I'm a bad, bad person. :(
