green day & jenn ster

one day i was minding my own business looking at my stats for this here blog when i noticed that i had over 900 unique views for the day so far. and it kept climbing with each passing minute.... seriously. by the next check, it was almost up to 1000.

now i don't know about you, but i don't get anywhere near 900 page views a day unless amalah links to me, or the sky is falling, or pigs are flying. so i had to figure out where the hell all these people were coming from.

*cue music*

it was all because of this here post.

every green day fan site known to man was linking and talking about this blog and this picture of blake and billie joe. we're talking about blogs and forums in all languages & countries.

then the comments started coming in. and then the emails. oh, the emails. asking if my son realizes he met the "god of punk." someone also wondered if billie gave me his phone number. when i responded with a no, she promptly wrote back inquiring "email addy?" um, that's a big no, over. and then questioning me as to WHY he has facial hair?! um, because he didn't shave?? how the hell should i know?

i don't mind actually. i totally get that these people are uber fans of billie joe and green day (hello green day spelling nazi, i've been spelling the band name correctly for you- you know, putting the space between green and day. i'm hoping it helps you sleep more soundly at night) and they want to know every single detail about the concert and what he was doing, and who he was with, and what he was wearing, etc. i've answered every email i think. even when it's just been to respond with a "i have no idea" because i don't know half the shit these people are asking me. lol

i would have done the same thing when i was in love with a band years ago, had i had the opportunity, so i get where it's all coming from. i just think it's funny how some of them are so riled up that bj went to a hannah montana concert. like it is the worst thing that he could possibly ever do. it's not like he's killing puppies onstage people. and then i think it's sweet that others are trying so hard to be understanding. i guess it's just funny how we treat and judge celebrities we don't know, but think we do. and how we try to understand their mentality when they do things we don't think they should be doing.... when the bottom line is, he's just a regular guy who is a dad and a husband and also in a band. right? maybe when some of his fans have kids, they'll understand the shit you do for your children. things you wouldn't normally do, but you do because it makes them happy. and that is what makes you happy. becoming a parent takes away your ability to be 100% selfish..... and in all honesty, you don't want to be anymore.

"God of punk", that's funny. A few years back I saw Iggy Pop and Green Day on the same day at a rock festival. Green Day were good, Iggy was great!

I know that "band" you're talking about. :)

P.S. Jessica and I were looking through photo albums last night and when she saw your wedding picture, she gasped, looked at me, and said, "Do we know a princess?!"

My mind went crazy blank at "amalah linked to me". Holy hell.

My greatest blogging moment of all time was the day she commented on my blog.

God I'm a dork.

That's hilarious! Who knew that people were so involved in Green Day?!

You must be joking. Someone actually referred to him as the "god of punk"?

How old was that person - 12?

Well, I'm glad you don't mind, cos I was the one responsible for "breaking" :D this story and starting the avalanche. Uhh... do you have any more pictures??? ;)

Take care. :)

I dont think people think its the "worst thing" that he was at a Hannah Montana concert. I think people think its pretty awesome! Its nice too see famous rock stars being chill with their kids. I've heard of some famous people who dont give a shit about their kids, or who treat them not very nicely (ahem, Britney?).

Billie IS a punk god people. I guess you dont realize how influential he's been in bringing that genre of music into the mainstream and getting a lot of new fans into it. They've been around WAY longer than American Idiot you know. (And since I'm on that subject, I might as well say that "Insomniac" is by far my favorite Green Day album) :D

Not to shit your journal, but as a response to this comment: punk and mainstream are complete opposites you fool -.-'

Okay, internet lingo time: OMGROFLMAO.

I don't know what the frenzy is about.
Hannah Montanna
Billie Joe Armstrong

..Nevermind.
I guess people go insane over celebrities and their activities. Sure, I love Green Day, but is it really necessary to ask the mother of a kid who got his picture with Billie Joe extraneous amounts of questions?

Further more, the small bit on the spelling of Green Day, I literally laughed out loud at how anal people can be about the spelling of their beloved band.

jennster said...

jemima.. it's necessary alright. LOL.. and truly, i don't mind and it doesn't bother me. hell, the thing that freaks me out the most is being constantly referred to as this MOM thing. *shudders* weird. lol

wow, you are so lucky. and there is like a million questions i wanna ask, but i won't. and that part about the spelling of Green Day just made me laugh because i always get mad at people who don't leave a space. ha.

I was one of those thousand page hits; I appreciate your sense of humor about the whole thing. Just so you know, as obsessed as we may seem, we're not all whackjobs. :-)

Hello, I am one of those Green Day fanatics and I enjoyed reading about your brush with Billie Joe Armstrong.
I also enjoyed reading this entry and especially liked your words about doing things for our children, and how their happiness becomes our happiness too.
(Haha- I'm dying to know who that band was!)

Aha. I thought it was cool that he went to a Hannah Montana concert. It made me feel better and not as lame for watching the show.

I don't see him as some kind of God. I'm a big fan of him, but I think the whole "rock god" thing is going to far.

What was with all those stupid questions?
Like you would know half of that shit. It's not like you handed him some sort of questionaire at the start.

You're right he is a normal person, people should stop trying to think/say what he should or shouldn't do.

I think I sounded quite mature in all that. Well for a 13 year old anyways.

Goddang, so you're the Mum of the kid who went to Hannah Montana and stood next to Billie Joe?! Jesus I'm jealous of you and your son. Green Day is my favourite band ever, and they have been for years. I'm resisting the urge to eTackle you right now. DEAR LORDY LORDY.

Cool that your hits were picking up, though, man! Bet that was your 15 minutes of fame right there --- Was it worth it? =P

I am a huge fan of Green Day, but I wouldn't go as far to say he is the "god of punk", but I would say he is the "king of punk".

I truly love the band and how influential its members have been on my life. And I think what Billie Joe did was really sweet. He was probably there because his kids are a fan and he just wanted to see them happy.

I really respect that about him, the way he does his best for his wife and kids. And yes, the facial hair isn't how we usually see him, but it's not bad. I mean, what's it matter anyway? I'm just glad that we finally got some news on how he's been doing.

Honestly, some fans take it a bit far with asking all of those unecessary questions, and I'd like to apologize for that. Some people take it a bit far.

Now don't get me wrong, I'm a crazed fan in some aspects, but I respect the right of privacy. For crying out loud, people, she saw him and got a picture of him with her son. It's not like she ran up and asked him a million questions. Give her a break.

Before I go, I'll have to admit that I am super envious of you and your son. You're so lucky to have met him. :)

Hi Jennster, I have to admit that I'm the LiveJournal site you mentioned from this post. I know you dropped by and left a comment after I posted your pic - I'm glad you've got a sense of humour about all this! From some of the comments above, you have definitely been invaded by love-crazed teenies :)

I'm a mom too (that dreaded word!) and while I haven't had the joy of a HM concert yet (!) I have taken my daughter to Dora Live and The Wiggles. I could only hope to be so lucky to graduate to HM and her like soon :)

On behalf of us more "mature" fans, sorry for the fuss. For me personally, in the current celebrity-meltdown-of-the-week world that we live in, it was just sweet and refreshing to see that someone famous and wealthy can still be a fairly normal and friendly guy. Someone who does stupid shit for their kids (I mean seriously - it was The Wiggles!) and actually enjoys it. Thanks.

Oh and yeah - he's still not bad to look at either ;)

Hello.

Some of you guys leaving comments are rediculous. You need to lay off, yes, Green Day is my favorite band, but you have to realize...they are just normal people. I would be pissed if I were getting questions as selfish as that. It's cool to ask how it was when she met him and stuff- but not "Did you get his number?" Like she's going to post that on the internet anyway. You guys need to grow up and realize that they...are just a band. They are normal people, they aren't god or anything. No need to worship them or and be so fucking anal about how you spell the band's name. And "punk god?" You're probably just some 11 year old poser only in love with them because Billie is hot as hell. My favortite album is dookie- I'm becoming pretty upset with Green Day right now. Billie is to busy posing for the paparazzi, Tre is busy getting stoned, and no one can find Mike.

Happy Holidays

I also think it's pretty awesome that BJ was at the concert. People who have seen/read some of his interviews should realize that he's actually a pretty big family man. Part of the reason Green Day is my favorite band is because they have this crazy side to them that I think we all have, but then they also have the ability to put things into perspective. Billie Joe shows by example that, no matter how cynical or jaded you may feel sometimes, there's nothing wrong with doing things for the people you care about. That's not a message I see from many modern musicians (especially in the punk genre).

'god of punk'...has a nice ring to it! lol. i do think it's a bit odd for him of all people to go to a hannah montana concert, but whatever. if he enjoyed it, than who cares? still would have been so surreal and weird to see him there, lol. he's amazing, gotta love green day!!!<3

yur all effin stupid (those of you who hate green day) green day is the best name in punk rock and all you haters are just jealous cuz you live alone in your basement with your 18 cats and you have nuthin else better to do but hate on people who are way cooler than you.
